War Widow(er)’s Railcard

Families of deceased Service personnel and certain groups of veterans can receive reduced price, or free travel through one of three schemes:

  • War Widows/Widowers HM Forces Railcard
  • War Widows Senior Railcard, and
  • Veterans Concessionary Travel Scheme.

War Widows/Widowers HM Forces Railcard

The War Widow's/Widower's Railcard offers reduced rail travel to war widows, recognised partners and dependent children, aged 16 or above, who are in full time education. The Railcard costs £21.

To be eligible, you must receive a Forces Family Pension, a War Widower's or Child's War pension, or a Guaranteed Income Payment (GIP) from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

To apply, complete the form on the War Widows' Association website and return it to the specified address.

War Widows Senior Railcard

If you're aged 60 and over and in receipt of a War Widow's Pension, you are entitled to a 25 per cent discount on the cost of a Senior Railcard.

To apply, or for more information, see the War Widows' Association website.

Veterans Oyster photocard

The Veterans Oyster photocard entitles war widowers, recognised partners, and dependants to free travel at any time in London on the bus, tube and overground services. There are some concessions to travel on mainline rail services just outside London.

To be eligible, you, your recognised partner, or dependants must be in receipt of ongoing payments under the War Pensions Scheme, or Guaranteed Income Payment (GIP) from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

For more information and details on how to apply, visit the TFL website.
